An Enchanting Trip To Kerala

A long-awaited holiday... my mission to make the most of it. 10 days to see as much as I can of Kerala with a crazy companion, an attention-seeking princess and a great guide who doubled up as a driver. 

We flew from Mumbai to Kochi, the capital city of Kerala with SpiceJet, who offered us complimentary couple tickets to a domestic destination of our choice. Though I expected the flight to be a normal one, I was pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to premium seats with more leg-room right next to the exit. The best part of the 1 hour 40 minutes journey was that we arrived much before time and were out of the airport in a jiffy. We decided to explore a bit of Kochi before the long drive to Munnar.

The plan was to start for Munnar after lunch, rewind there for a couple of days to enjoy the hills and tea plantations, followed by beach time in Alleppey to experience the floating cottages in Ashtamudi and finally the backwaters in Kumarakom. Which place can boast of such an amazing array of experiences?

Since I've travelled a lot within Europe and United Kingdom I could easily draw comparisons  between the destinations throughout my journey. Almost all aspects in Kerala stood just as tall in comparison to its international counterparts and demanded more visits, however one thing that I was a bit disappointed with; were the roads... the National and State highways throughout Kerala are single lane roads and thus a journey which should primarily take maximum 3 hours stretches to over 8 hours due to the traffic and single lane driving. Having said that the journey itself is so picturesque that most people wouldn't complain. But for me, it was rather difficult to contain a 2-year young inquisitive princess within the confines of a vehicle for that long.

My trip though hectic has been a great holiday, once-in-a-lifetime types.
